Last weekend, FIRST Robotics Competition Kickoff events were held all over the world, revealing the 2015 “RECYCLE RUSH” game details. SolidProfessor is proud to partner with FIRST Robotics teams #2485 W.A.R. Lords, #1538 The Holy Cows, and #3476 Code Orange as they design robots for this year’s competition!

RECYCLE RUSH is a recycling-themed game where robots score points by stacking totes on scoring platforms, capping those stacks with recycling containers, properly disposing of “litter”. In keeping with the recycling theme of the game, all game pieces used are reusable or recyclable.

Teams received a Kit of Parts made up of motors, batteries, a control system, a PC, and a mix of automation components. Students only have six weeks to build their robot before the competitions begin on February 26. SolidProfessor is helping to mentor local San Diego robotics teams and provide them with educational resources to develop their design skills and create top-scoring robots. The SolidProfessor video tutorials provide an opportunity for students new to CAD software to quickly learn the techniques they need in order to build their robots. Students with prior CAD experience use SolidProfessor as an on-demand reference tool, to develop new skills, or to explore updates to the software application.

SolidProfessor Education Specialist Chad Makings is excited to be returning to partner with existing and new FIRST Robotics Teams. “I’m proud of the talented and determined teams that we get to support in this competition. Being able to see the students grow and develop their skills has been incredibly rewarding and I know they will do a great job with this year’s challenge.”

FIRST is more than robots. The robots are a vehicle for students to learn important life skills.” said Dean Kamen, president of DEKA Research & Development and FIRST Founder. “Kids often come in not knowing what to expect — of the program nor of themselves. They leave, even after the first season, with a vision, with confidence, and with a sense that they can create their own future.”

Watch their Kickoff video for more information about FIRST and their mission to build community and teach 21st century skills to high school students.
