SOLIDWORKS Keyboard Shortcuts That’ll Increase Your Design Efficiency

One of the easiest ways you can design faster is by using SOLIDWORKS keyboard shortcuts. With SOLIDWORKS keyboard shortcuts, you’ll be able to launch commands quickly instead of wasting time searching for them in the toolbar. Plus, you can create custom shortcuts based on the commands and features you use most frequently.

How to create a custom keyboard shortcut in SOLIDWORKS

Tip: Only create shortcuts for commands you consistently use.

  1. With a document open, select Tools.
  2. Select Customize.
  3. Select the Keyboard tab.
  4. Click on a command you use often that doesn’t have an existing shortcut.
  5. Add a custom shortcut.
    • For example: If you consistently use Parabolas in your designs, click on the Parabola command in the chart. Enter a shortcut of your choosing (e.g., P).
  6. You’ll get an error message if you enter a shortcut that already exists. You can overwrite this if you choose. Select OK to finish and save.

How to change keyboard shortcuts in SOLIDWORKS

  1. With a document open, select Tools.
  2. Select Customize.
  3. Select the Keyboard tab.
  4. Click on a keyboard shortcut you want to change.
  5. Add a new custom shortcut.
  6. You’ll get an error message if you enter a shortcut that already exists. You can overwrite this if you choose.
  7. Select OK to finish and save.
