SOLIDWORKS World 2019 was a conference like no other. Are you ready for the changes coming your way?

The most talked about topics at SOLIDWORKS World 2019 revolved around the company’s future of engineering technology and innovation, especially when it comes to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Whether you were in a breakout session, walking through the partner pavilion, or following along on Twitter, everyone was buzzing about these hot announcements. Find out how the most talked about topics from SOLIDWORKS World 2019 could impact your day-to-day job responsibilities — and even your career.

1. Dassault Systèmes acquired Trace Software

Dassault Systèmes, SOLIDWORKS’ parent company, announced during the show that the company acquired Trace Software’s elecworks™ electrical design and automation product line and intellectual property. Elecworks software provides schematic design, electrical control panel design, and small wiring-cabling-harnessing design capabilities that form the basis of SOLIDWORKS Electrical application.

What it means for you: By joining forces with Trace Software, the SOLIDWORKS 3DEXPERIENCE platform will have more robust and integrated updates coming soon. So if you’re a 3DEXPERIENCE user, you can expect that the platform will have more add-ins and become easier to use with other teammates. If you haven’t tried it yet, it may be worth giving it a chance soon.

2. Dassault Systèmes unveiled 3DEXPERIENCE.WORKS

During the annual conference’s opening session, Dassault Systèmes announced 3DEXPERIENCE.WORKS, a new portfolio of applications on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform that combines social collaboration, design, simulation, and manufacturing ERP capabilities. This new platform is still in its beta version and the company hasn’t announced a launch date at this time.

What it means for you: We’re not sure yet. While a large portion of the conference was dedicated to 3DEXPERIENCE.WORKS, the full functions and capabilities of this new platform remain to be seen. What we do know is that 3DEXPERIENCE.WORKS is a cloud-based platform designed with the hopes of making collaboration easier for engineers and their teams. How will it do that? That’s yet to be clearly defined.

3. SOLIDWORKS WORLD is evolving into 3DEXPERIENCE WORLD

For the foreseeable future, Dassault Systèmes is retiring SOLIDWORKS World and rebranding next year’s conference as 3DEXPERIENCE World 2020. This unexpected announcement left some SOLIDWORKS users questioning the change. Anticipating some backlash from the announcement, CEO Gian Paolo Bassi attempted to ease users’ concerns by expressing, “SOLIDWORKS, and the spirit of SOLIDWORKS World, will not be left behind.”

What it means for you: While next year’s show won’t be all about SOLIDWORKS, it sounds like you’ll still get your fill of the software during the conference’s breakout sessions and throughout the partner pavilion. We expect that there will be plenty of opportunities to dive into all things SOLIDWORKS, but users will also have the opportunity to investigate Dassault’s other platforms.
