Becky Abarca and Sam Sanchez, Application Engineers at SolidProfessor, have been named two of San Diego Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business of 2015.

Now in its 22nd year, the San Diego Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business Awards program is now the longest running and one of the largest programs of its kind in the region. Each year, the San Diego Business Journal recognizes dynamic women business leaders who have contributed significantly to San Diego’s businesses. The women honored represent a broad range of business sectors and have dedicated their professional lives to making their communities, businesses, and world better.

As applications engineers with SolidProfessor, Becky and Sam are part of the team that creates compelling online learning experiences for engineers and designers. They create courses, exercises, and assessments that help people develop their Computer-Aided Design skills. Becky and Sam were honored with this award because they are considered to be two of the foremost experts on Computer-Aided Design software in the industry and have helped numerous engineers learn and improve design skills.

In the past year, Becky has achieved 4 certificates – the Advanced SOLIDWORKS certificates for Surfacing, Sheet Metal, Weldments, and Drawings. Becky has also had the honor to present at the San Diego SOLIDWORKS User Group on how to pass their online certifications. Becky volunteers with the Alpha Chi Omega alumni chapter at UCSD, presenting on career panels and encouraging the next generation of young women to get engaged in STEM careers. She provides interview and resume advice to help other women get the career they want.

Becky also continues her involvement with Achievement Institute of Scientific Studies by mentoring current high school students in the program.

Sam has, in the past year, achieved the prestigious CSWP (Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional) certification, demonstrating her advanced knowledge and abilities in Computer-Aided Design. Also this year, Sam was honored to be asked to be a contributing writer to Engineering.com, sharing her expertise to their audience. She enjoys helping engineers and designers better grasp CAD software and is passionate about finding new ways to present information in an engaging and effective way. Sam volunteers at a “Maker Space” teaching CAD to aspiring designers.
